There’s one thing I’ve collected that I never intended to have a collection of…and that’s plastic grocery bags!

They mysteriously multiply!  I try to tame my collection with by installing a plastic bag container that hangs on the inside of my closet door, but somehow, they overflow.  So I had to think, what other uses do they have other than just sitting there? 

Below are a few examples…

1. Grab a couple of plastic bags and use them as knee pads. Tie one around each knee, covering the area that will be exposed to dirt and grime!
2. Use bags as gloves to handle what’s messy or just plain gross (great to use when cleaning up after your dog).
3. Avoid dripping water all over your (or anyone else’s) apartment on a rainy day, pop your wet umbrella into a plastic grocery bag.
4. I also use them at the grocery store. I take them back and have them reused.

Employers get hundreds of resumes every week.  Can you imagine how cross eyed they are reading the same thing over and over again.  That’s why you’re resume should stand out from the rest and immediately grab the eye of the person reading it.  My resume used to be just a plain, nothing out of the ordinary, list of everything that I had ever done, since leaving high school.  When I wasn’t getting any calls, I began to wonder what could be wrong?  I took a good hard look at my resume and realized that I hadn’t outlined my recent experience or highlighted anything of significant importance.  So, my resume got a complete and up to date overhaul. And voila, here I am working at a job I love.  Here are some things I did to enhance my resume and make it more attention grabbing.

1.  I used a title that matched the job I was seeking. 

2.  I made sure that my name and contact information was clearly seen.

3.  Be creative!  I once saw a resume that had been made into a tri-fold.  Wouldn’t have worked for me, but it was unique.

4.  Take key words from the actual job description and apply them to your resume.

5.  Use numbers to identify and enhance your experience.

I have never really been a fan of the High School Musical movies, I left all that craziness to my two daughters.  And honestly, the way Hollywood is, it’s a miracle that any of the young actors actually have a career after HSM.  That’s why I am glad to see that Zac Efron is shedding his basketball, dancing, singing image, for more dramatic roles.  He was funny in 17 Again, but again, it was high school.  This Friday, July 3o, his new movie, Charlie St. Cloud hits theaters.  A story of a young man, going off to college, loves sailing and most of all his little brother.  Tragedy strikes, leaving Charlie devastated.  How this story ends?  Well, we’ll just have to go and see it.

Weekends are always tough, especially when you don’t know what to do with your time and housework is NOT an option.  Why not do something fun and exciting?  Try one of the three National Parks in the area and go hiking, biking or just take a picnic and get away from the hussle and bustle of the city.

How long have Aerosmith been together?  I would never have believed that they have been rocking for 40 years!  And it appears that apart from a few more wrinkles, they don’t seem to have changed at all.  Even though they are all now in the 60’s, they keep on making albums and doing the rounds, of what is a really gruelling touring schedule.  I am thrilled to announce that they will be at The BankAtlantic Center, August 9, 2010, in Fort Lauderdale in support of their Cocked, Locked and Ready to Rock Tour 2010.  Get your tickets now as this is one concert that you will not want to miss.

This is going to be a big weekend at the box office.  Christopher Nolan’s Inception comes out today alongside the remake of an old Disney classic, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.

In Fort Lauderdale there is a pizza place called Primanti Brothers Pizza.  They are open 24 hours a day from 11am – 11pm.  They are best known for their hand-tossed pizzas and chicken wings.  They are located by the beach and they have special offers every Tuesday and Thursday.  The reviews are great for Primanti and is only 14 miles from The Palms.  Their good food and casual attire dress code, easily makes this a favorite with vacationers and locals alike.

On Saturday July 17, 2010 “The Flamingos and Lola and the Saints” are appearing in the 2010 Oldies Summer Concert Series. Come and rock out to the oldies of the 50’s and 60’s. Ok, so you might not be old enough to remember some of the golden oldies, but that shouldn’t stop you from going along to the Hollywood Performing Arts Center and having a rocking good time!

 

When moving into a new apartment the one thing that gets overlooked is the lighting. We are usually more concerned about where our furniture is going to go! In my first apartment I didn’t have a ceiling light, so I had to get creative! Here are some tips I used to make my living room brighter.

• I used table lamps at the end of the sofa to radiate the light inwards to the room. This also worked great when all I wanted to do is read.
• I put a tall uplighter lamp behind the sofa, so when I wanted more light this would be a perfect solution.
• If you have a fireplace this is a great place to position small lamps at each end.
• I never watch television in the dark, it causes too much straining on the eyes. What I had was a small tv cabinet and put a lamp on the top.

Once again the nation is gripped in vampire frenzy!  Eclipse, the third installment of the Twilight Saga, hit theaters at midnight on June 29.  It reportedly made $30 million in 3 hours.  Wow, it’s certainly headed to breaking all kinds of box office records!  And once again, we are thrown into which team are you?  Team Edward or Team Jacob?  I thought that this question had been answered when Twilight came out! Apparently not!  Twi-hards keep flip flopping between teams, and from what I can gather, it depends on what Jacob is wearing!
